You've been feeling funny and we want to get to the bottom of it. You're back to see me for a follow up to your exam, today's the day we're going to do your colonoscopy.

I visit you in pre-op to check in on how you're doing. I ask how your colonoscopy prep went and Momma (offscreen, implied) indicates you did really well. It wasn't much fun, but believe me when I say it's the hardest part. I heard you were a bit nervous so I explain the procedure to you to help to put you at ease.

I meet you in the OR dressed in a surgical gown, gloves and a tie on mask. Before we begin your colonoscopy I give you a bit of gas to ensure you remain comfortable. Then I have you put your feet into the stirrups as I lift your gown. As I expose you I assure you that the surgical team are all very professional and that all of this is nothing we haven't seen before.

I lubricate your anus, with my finger, and the colonoscope before inserting it into your colon. I observe the camera's feed on a monitor (implied, offscreen) while I work it deeper into your colon and up into your intestine. Throughout the procedure I confer with the team, describe bits of what I'm doing to you, and offer you affirmation and reassurance.

As I'm retracting the scope I notice you've ejaculated and that you are aware that it happened. I explain that it's a common result to the pressure put onto the prostate and that you have nothing to be embarrassed about. After I've removed the scope from your colon I give you a good wipe - there, it's like it never happened. I let you know that a nurse will finish getting you cleaned up and will move you into recovery.

I visit you in recovery where you are back with Momma. I let you both know that everything went really well, that you did so good, and that everything looked fine. Knowing we haven't explained your tummy troubles I suggest referring you to a dietician. We're all in agreement but I promise to have you back in to see me if they can't get you sorted.
