Unexpected Appendectomy
It's Monday morning and we're catching up in the clinic, I'm in scrubs and a lab coat. We're chatting about what we did over the weekend when suddenly I get a cramp in my side - It's nothing, I say and we continue to carry on casual conversation. The cramp returns with a vengeance and I double over in pain. Doctor, I think I might need your assistance.
Next, you find me seated on a table, in a patient gown and oxygen mask. The air is helping to calm my nerves... I hadn't expected to need an appendectomy today but I know you'll take good care of me. I remove the oxygen mask, and put on a bouffant cap at your request.
As I lay back, with a black beauty rubber mask you begin to administer the gas. I start counting back. 100. 99. 98. 97. 96. 95....
Enjoy two full minutes of watching me, eyes closed, mask on, in dreamland before I awake to find you standing over me. I can't speak clearly, and my speech is slurred, even once the mask is removed. Everything went well though. Thank you so much for saving me doctor.
