Gloved Exam
You’re visiting my clinic for a routine physical exam. I introduce myself and then pull on my first pair of gloves–a light orange/beige colored pair of tight, fitted surgical gloves. I breathe in their scent and feel them on my hands for a moment before examining your lymph nodes. After some time, my gloves start to get sweaty, so I change into a pair of teal colored latex surgical gloves. Again, I breathe in the scent. This time I have you smell them too. I then listen to your heart and lungs with my stethoscope. Your pulse sounds a little high, but I think it’s because you might be a little excited. Again, my gloves get sweaty so I snap on a pair of semi-transparent biogel surgical gloves. This time I lead you through some breathing exercises while I hold my hand over your nose and mouth, making you breathe in the scent of my gloves. For some reason, it doesn’t make your pulse go down. Lastly, I snap on a pair of white latex surgical gloves. Don’t you just love them? I think I’m going to need to see you again soon so I can make sure your heart is really okay.
